Life of the Brahminy Kite in Singapore

Recently I had the privilege to document the Life of the Brahminy Kite, Haliastur indus, family. Setting up a family in the wild is not easy! Firstly, selecting a well-concealed nest is crucial. Hatching their chicks was fraught with danger amidst threatening neighbors around them: Crocodile, Peregrine Falcon, Osprey, Crow and White-bellied Sea-eagle. Initially, I thought that the male Brahminy Kite was lazy, as it never seemed to help much at the nest. Later, I realised that his role was to fight off any threats that came too close! At times, even the female leaves the nest to join him in the battles.

But against all odds, this pair has managed to raise their broods every year. I wish for them to continue doing what they do best.
