Dollarbird (Eurystomus orientalis) takes delight in the rain

on 12th December 2021

Wong Kais captured these videos of a dollarbird (Eurystomus orientalis) taking delight in the drizzle that eventually turned into a downpour.  The bird was seen on 23 January 2018 at Serangoon Gardens, Singapore.

Video 1. The dollarbird sat quietly on the overhead electrical wire during the light rain drizzle. The pink flowers in the background belong to the Tabebuia rosea.

Video 2.  The dollarbird spread out its wings to drench its feathers and wagged its tail.  The tail feathers also received a good drenching.  The bird was obviously bathing and cleaning its feathers.
