Oriental Pied Hornbill feeding on discarded rice

on 28th April 2012

The above video has just been made available to us by Ailian Mei. It shows an Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris) eating discarded rice at a Housing Board’s open area at Dawson Place, Singapore.

A short account was earlier posted HERE.

The rice was left by someone meant for a the Rock Pigeons (Columba livia). The pigeons were eyeing the rice but none dared go near the large hornbill that was taking chunks of the rice and swallowing them. Only when the hornbill had its full and flew off did the pigeons moved in and started eating the rice.
