An earlier post documented Red-whiskered Bulbuls (Pycnonotus jocosus) eating Hong Kong Orchid Tree (Bauhinia purpurea x var. ‘Blakeana’) leaves.
It was subsequently observed that Olive-backed Sunbird (Cinnyris jugularis) feeds on the nectar of the flowers from the same tree…
These female sunbirds were seen flying in at irregular intervals during late evenings, visited a few flowers and immediately flew off.
The tree grows a few houses away from my house and needs to be monitored as the sunbirds visit only for a brief moment each time.
