“Frequently heard but hard to see at Fraser’s Hill, we were delighted to encounter this 15cm Collared Owlet (Glaucidium brodiei), Asia’s smallest owl, sitting not too high up in a roadside tree at Alishan, Taiwan last month.
“Even a little owlet causes much agitation among the various tit species in the surrounding area – listen to the excited twittering while it nonchalantly sits on the branch, occasionally observing us observing it from down below…
“After a few rounds of the familiar fluty ‘toot toot-toot toot’ call, this owlet’s voice seemed to have given way…or has it caught a cold?”
