Ficus consociata: 2. Crimson-breasted Flowerpecker

on 22nd July 2012

This is a continuing series by Dato’ Dr Amar-Singh HSS on birds feeding on Ficus consociate at the Kledang-Sayong Forest Reserve in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia: see link. The location is the outer reaches of the forest reserve, along a trail through mixed secondary and primary forests. The observation was made on 30th April 2012.

Part 1 is on the Orange-bellied Flowerpecker (Dicaeum trigonostigma) LINK.

There were at least two adult male Crimson-breasted Flowerpeckers (Prionochilus percussus ignicapilla) who fed by tearing off pieces from the ripe figs. The image on the left is an adult female while that on the right is an immature bird.
