Above is Lee Tiah Khee’s classic image of a Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) turning a stone, just as it is supposed to do, according to its name.
The turnstone flips over objects such as stones, shells, etc with a fast jerky movement to get at the prey beneath. It feeds on insects and their larvae, especially flies.
