Blue-winged Pitta’s home visit

on 10th November 2024
A blue-winged pitta got itself trapped between the wooden blinds and the glass panel in my living room this morning.
My helper pulled up the blinds and it hopped to the floor but kept trying to get out by flying to the glass. So she opened a window next to the panel but the bird ignored it and flew further into the house.
It tried to camouflage itself by joining my display of wooden ducks . Or was it thinking they were a flock of migratory birds like itself and would join them in their migration?

Eventually my helper picked it up gently and released it in the garden under a clump of bushes. We checked two hours later and it was gone.

Bon voyage little pitta !

  1. What an enchanting topic to explore! The idea of the Blue-winged Pitta (*Pitta moluccensis*) making a “home visit” is both fascinating and heartwarming. These strikingly beautiful birds, known for their vibrant plumage and elusive nature, don’t always get the attention they deserve in birdwatching communities, so it’s great to see more focus on their behavior and interactions with humans.

Thanks for sharing this lovely story! It reminds us that wildlife, even the more secretive species, are always closer than we think, and they can surprise us in the most unexpected ways. Looking forward to more updates on the Blue-winged Pitta’s adventures!
