In the post https://besgroup.org/2024/11/05/what-are-the-pangolins-doing/ Lena Chow recorded two pangolins in a ditch. It was then not evident what they were doing.
In the following Youtube video by Lena Chow, the sounds generated during the interaction were horrific to human ears. It was not known how long this had been going on and the cause of this interaction.
The two pangolins were subsequently separated and taken to the Mandai Wildlife Group for examination. To cut a long story short, the two animals were males and of the same species (conspecific). The larger male had some injuries and released into the wild but the smaller one was in a serious condition. It was examined under anaesthesia.
The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at National University of Singapore
https://lkcnhm.nus.edu.sg/ subsequently published a report on this incident, authored by Leroy Rocky Alphonso of nparks, Siddik Hasman of nparks, Muhammad Affandi Anuar of nparks and Dr Charlene Yeong of Mandai Wildlife Group. You can read it in the link below.
In conclusion, two male pangolins of the same species had an altercation and the larger animal inflicted massive injuries on the smaller one. Reason of altercation: unknown.
