Smooth-coated otters corral fish

on 28th September 2024

The by-now famous Smooth-coated otters Lutrogale perspicillata featured in BBC Earth: The Otters of Singapore, caught the attention of Ivan Lim at Pelton Canal. In video 1 by Ivan Lim, a large group numbering about 13, was seen frolicking energetically and excitedly while engaged in chasing fish.

The second video, also by Ivan Lim, taken from a greater distance shows the otters working synergically to corral fish to the shallow part of the canal. There seems to be a great abundance of fish. Ivan Lim had also captured a Little Egret chasing fish along a section of this canal at an earlier date. You can read about it in the following link https://besgroup.org/2023/12/18/little-egret-chases-fish/
