Bat robs bat

on 24th April 2023

In the early hours of 15 April 2023, Sheng Lau witnessed a bat (probably the common fruit bat Cynopterus brachyotis) feeding peacefully on a sweet sop / sugar apple (Annona squamosa) in his garden. Suddenly another bat flew in and attacked the first bat. The attacking bat was trying to take over the feasting. This was documented at Sian Tuan Avenue, Singapore.

Bats have been known to jam each others’ sonar while competing for prey HERE. Sheng Lau witnessed an agonistic behaviour in intraspecific competition for food HERE.
