Black-winged Stilt – variants

posted in: birds, Miscellaneous | 0

Occasionally we see an odd plumaged adult Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), one with a dark black on the nape and hindneck – see the image above. Very like the Pied Stilts (Himantopus (himantopus) leucocephalus).  Pied Stilts have been noted to be breeding both in Singapore and the Malayasina part of Borneo. However, Pied Stilts are said to have a pure white face and head.
