Brahminy Kite – social/feeding behaviour

posted in: birds, Interspecific, Raptors | 0

I saw this rather comical scene. A Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus intermedius) had caught a prey and was attempting to feed on it on the ground. Four Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis coromundus) had ‘surrounded’ it and were watching intently, hoping to gain access to the prey as well. They did not seem afraid of the raptor and were interrupting feeding. I wonder if the prey caught was too big to carry away? Made my day.
