Golden Shower tree (Cassia fistula)

on 1st May 2019

Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula) is experiencing massive blooming at the back of our school after a season of dryness. It is also the national flower of Thailand.

Various species of bees and butterflies are known to be pollinators of C. fistula flowers, especially Carpenter Bees.

The fruit is a long, hard legume, containing numerous seeds.

Do take some time to walk over and admire the blooms in front of your eyes!

  1. Cassia fistula is also the state flower of Kerala, India, and its flowering during April heralds the beginning of the Malayalam New Year. It is also the time nature blesses the dry land with much needed refreshing summer showers heralding the beginning of agricultural operations in Kerala.
