“Zebra Doves (Geopelia striata) usually feed on open ground, pecking on ground surfaces to get small fallen seeds. I have seen them under fruit ficus but more often in open grass areas.
“In October 2017 I reported an adult pair picking seeds directly off the grass inflorescences (3 different grass plants were fed on). See:
“On this occasion I saw a family group of 2 juveniles and 1 adult feeding directly on seeds on a bush. I am as yet unable to identify this fairly common road-side plant (weed) which has fragrant leaves. The birds had clambered up the low bush to a height of about 0.5-0.7 meters and were actively ‘plucking’ out seeds to feed on. The bush was located in dense Imperata cylindrical (Lalang) grass.
