“I was surprised to find a juvenile male Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus malayanus) approximately 1 km inside primary jungle.
“I did not expect to find it in such a habitat. There was no accompanying brood-parasitic host (not sure who would be a host in the jungle). It was self-feeding and visited the Giant Mahang (Macaranga gigantea)…
“…followed by feeding on a number of these large pinkish ‘berries’. The fruit was high in the canopy of a tree but I suspect it comes from a creeper that has ascended the tree. Fruits were swallowed whole.”
