Smooth Otters and the Malayan Water Monitor

A family of Smooth Otters (Lutrogale perspicillata) was frolicking in the water at Sungei Serangoon catching fish when a Malayan Water Monitor (Varanus salvator) quietly appeared nearby (above, below). There was no indication that there was a confrontation between the otters and the lizard.

These otters are ferocious, confronting monitor lizards – see HERE as well as Saltwater Crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) – see HERE, should the situation demands.
