A Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) was perching on a bare branch when a dragonfly flew just above it.
With mandibles agape the kingfisher made a slight jump and clamped the dragonfly at the thorax just behind the head.
It returned to its original perch to bash the dragonfly in an effort to dislodge the wings and head before swallowing it.
