Dark-necked Tailorbird in NE Borneo

The least common of the tailorbirds in Borneo is the Dark-necked Tailorbird (Orthotomus atrogularis humphreysi).

“In north-east Borneo is quite different from O. a. atrogularis that occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and the rest of Borneo.

“Almost thought I was seeing a Mountain Tailorbird as the yellow of the underparts is extensive. Said to have more extensive black on breast but this male did not show it. It had a partner nearby and behaved as an adult.

“Phillipps (2014) states that the way to differentiate the 3 lowland Tailorbird in Borneo is to look at the tail colour – greenish in the Dark-necked Tailorbird.”

He is Patron of the Singapore Gardening Society and was appointed Honorary Museum Associate of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) in 2012. In 2005, Dr Wee started the Bird Ecology Study Group. With more than 6,000 entries, the website has become a valuable resource consulted by students, birdwatchers and researchers locally and internationally.
