“While the warm weather in April 2016 made us all feeling hot and bothered, a series of substantial afternoon showers towards the end of the month provided some relief. These refreshing rains were also essential in replenishing the water in local ponds.
“Delighted by a dip in temperatures and rise in water levels, a resident White-breasted Waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) indulged itself at a pond’s edge to quench its thirst with leisure and pleasure (top, above).
“In between sips of the fresh water, the waterhen would preen itself lightly, while admiring its own reflection (above).
