Greater Green Leafbird and Macaranga bancana – another record

on 17th September 2015

Dato’ Dr Amar-Singh HSS has added the Greater Green Leafbird (Chloropsis sonnerati zosterops) to the long list of species that feed on the fruits of the Common Mahang (Macaranga bancana).

This images reproduced here were photographed along a trail by a stream through primary forest of the Kledang-Sayong Forest Reserve, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia on 8th July 2015.

The list of birds associated with this fantastic bird tree can be accessed HERE. The total number of bird species feeding on the fruits of this tree is now increased to 34.

He is Patron of the Singapore Gardening Society and was appointed Honorary Museum Associate of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) in 2012. In 2005, Dr Wee started the Bird Ecology Study Group. With more than 6,000 entries, the website has become a valuable resource consulted by students, birdwatchers and researchers locally and internationally.
