Oriental Pied Hornbills preening

Dato’ Dr Amar-Singh HSS encountered a pair of Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris convexus) locking bills at the outskirts of Tapah, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia on 10th April 2014 LINK.

At the same time he managed to photograph the female preening (top) and pair indulging in appopreening (above, below).

Such activities are to keep the feathers in top condition, although allopreening has the added function of bonding the pair.
