Buffy Fish-owl – Facial Expression

posted in: Morphology-Develop., Owls | 0

“I was just remarking to my wife yesterday that I had not seen this common Buffy Fish-owl (Ketupa ketupu ketupu) for some time (above). The owl is also known as Malay Fish-owl.

“Today when out cycling my wife spotted one in small green lung in the heart of the city near a park with fish pond.

“The camera I was carrying was limited so when we got home I went out with a better lens, and managed to find it again. I took close to an hour to approach it slowly. It allowed a 3 meter approach before becoming restless and I left when that happened.

“Movement of the ear tufts can vary the facial expression considerably (above).”
