First day fledgling – Blue Whistling-thrush

On 3rd February 2013, Connie Khoo sent in an image of a day-old Blue Whistling-thrush (Myiophoneus caeruleus) that she photographed at Kek Look Tong in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.

The day-old fledgling made its maiden flight from somewhere on the limestone cliff and landed on the cemented floor below. The adults flew down to “persuade” it to move up where it would be safe from predators. It took them more than an hour to get the fledgling to “climb” higher up the rock surface where it then got behind some rocks, safe from potential predators.
