Foraging White-breasted Waterhen and Great Egret

Lena Chow‘s video clip above shows a White-breasted Waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) foraging among the floating leaves of the waterlily (Nymphaea sp.). Enthused Lena, “This White-breasted Waterhen is ‘doing the Jacana’ – it’s taking to walking on Lotus leaves like a duck to water… I’ve never seen a waterhen so excited before, almost like it’s putting on a show for us!”

“In contrast, this Great Egret (Ardea alba) (above) seems to be having a slight weight problem, sinking slowly on waterlily leaves as it hunts for its prey…”
