Call of the adult Yellow-bellied Prinia

posted in: Vocalisation | 0

“Two adults Yellow-bellied Prinia (Prinia flaviventris rafflesi) were making their usual warning calls when the female decided to bounce out and enter the tall grass (Lalang, Imperata cylindrica) right in front of me. It then proceeded to preen for quite some time about 1 meter from me. Have had similar experiences with these birds before. It allowed me to poke my camera into the grass for some images. Thankfully the current set up has a shorter focal length. Of course lots of grass between us so images impaired, but allowed a close look at iris and white eyebrow (supra-loral stripe) of the female (above left), and a good look at the feet (above right).

“Calls of both adults (with response) – HERE.”
