Common Tailorbird leaf bathing

posted in: Feathers-maintenance | 0

“The Common Tailorbird (Orthotomus sutorius maculicollis) love to bathe. On a hot day, after we have watered the garden, they like to use a large leaf like that of the keladi or yam (Colocasia esculenta). In the ‘wild’ I have seen them use a banana leaf.

“They will slide down the leaf to get wet, as well as open their wings and lean forward. Numerous episodes are required before they are satisfied.”
