Adult male Banded Yellownape foraging

“The adult male Banded Yellownape (Picus miniaceus malaccensis) foraging in the dried leaves of the Sealing Wax Palm (Cyrtostachys renda) (above left). I thought it was for ants but some images show silk fibers in the beak, so possibly for insect pupae.

“Top right shows him intently licking black ants from a dead branch.”
