The Bird Ecology Study Group acknowledges contributors…

on 31st December 2011

The Bird Ecology Study Group came onto the scene in mid-2005 with the aim of encouraging birdwatchers to see beyond the plumage. In this regard we have been successful beyond our wildest imagination. With the ending 2011, we take the opportunity to thank the many who have contributed to our success…

1. Margie Hall sowed the seed of a second bird group at the 2005 Annual General Meeting of the Nature Society (Singapore) when she made her successful pre-election speech to bid for the post of Hon Secretary.

2. This led veteran members Richard Hale, R Subaraj and YC Wee to gather a handful of other members to form the BESG.

3. Prof Vilma D’Rozario’s brilliance gave the group the name Bird Ecology Study Group or BESGroup, eventually to become BESG.

4. Andrew Tay, who was responsible for the group’s logo.

5. Jacqueline Lau, who set up and hosted the website, and upgraded it to what it is today. She is also responsible for obtaining our current domain name of www.besgroup.org.

6. Slin Sreedharan LINK, whose initiative and foresight gave us a sister website, The Birds of Singapore LINK, that when completed, will be the most updated account of the birds of Singapore, such that you do not need any guide books to birdwatch in Singapore.

7. Working behind the scene are our panel of experts from the different fields of biology: Joseph Koh (spiders), Kelvin Lim (fish, amphibians, reptiles), Prof Peter Ng (crustaceans), Dr Khoo Hong Woo (fish), Dr Geoffrey Davison (birds), Wang Luan Keng (birds), Ali Ibrahin (plants), Dr Francis Ng (plants), Dr Leong Tzi Ming (invertebrates), Khew Sin Khoon (butterflies), Prof Richard Corlett (tropical ecology), Francis Lim (reptiles, mistletoe) et al.

9. Last but not least, the nearly 400 contributors who generously shared their observations and images with the website, as listed below.
