Pacific Golden Plover guarding turf

on 1st November 2011

The migratory season is on and the waders are plentiful at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Lena Chow was there at the beginning of October 2011 and encountered several hundreds Pacific Golden Plovers (Pluvialis fluva) some still in their breeding plumage. Many of them have been tagged with the Reserve’s green-over-white leg flags.

Lena brought back a video clip of the bigger Pacific Golden Plover chasing away some Lesser Sand Plovers (Charadrius mongolus) and claiming the worm that it had been guarding.
