Lena Chow‘s earlier post on the foraging behaviour of the Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) shows the bird probing into the burrows of crabs LINK. In this video clip, Lena captures the Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) pecking the ground and shallow water as its walks briskly along.
The Common Redshank occasionally also probes or jabs and sweeps its bill through the water.
