Lena Chow‘s video clip shows a Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) foraging on a mud flat. It moves around to suddenly probe its long bill into the soft mud to catch small crabs. Once it has the crab clamped at the tip of its bill, it runs to the shallow water to immerse the prey a few times, removing traces of mud before swallowing it. It also probes crab burrows in the shallow water.
