Little Egret fishing

Samson Tan’s images of the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) catching fish one morning at the Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve in September 2011… (above) LINK. Note the egret’s ability to catch fish after fish as it stalked the shallow water.

Once the fish was properly aligned with its head pointing towards its buccal cavity, it was swallowed. The shape of the fish can be easily seen as it moved down the gullet into the stomach (above).
