Feeding behaviour of herons: 3. Little Heron

Part 1 dealing with the feeding behaviour of the Chinese Pond Heron can be accessed HERE and part 2 HERE.

“There were 3-4 Little Herons (Butorides striata) at various sections of this large pond. This particular fisherman caught my eye and I want to share this bird as hope for 2011 (above).

“Note that it has only one leg, the left foot appears amputated (? from a trap). Despite the disability it was quite agile as the pictures show and was doing a great job foraging. It was also the bravest in coming closest to me.

“Like this bird, my hope is our 2011 will continued to be filled with courage to move forward amidst growing adversity both in the environment and elsewhere.”
