Little Grebe at the Singapore Quarry

Little Grebe preening from phraeb on Vimeo.

In mid-December 2010, at the Singapore Quarry, a small body of water resulting from past granite quarrying, Goh Pei Hao videoed a Little Grebe Tachybaptus ruficollis) preening its wing feathers (above) and photographed a pair of grebes “engaging in some ‘activity’. Not sure if it is courtship behaviour. There was some vocalisation when the two came together.”

The grebes may be indulging in a little intimacy. Comments anyone?
