An earlier post shows various sunbirds harvesting nectar from the Saraca tree. All the birds were perching on the large flowering bunches. We have another post showing the Crimson Sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja) hovering to harvest nectar from the flowers of the water canna (Thalia dealbata).
Mark G. a.k.a. strobby has now provided an image of the Crimson Sunbird hovering like a hummingbird to get at the nectar from the Saraca flowers.
Obviously sunbirds will be forced to hover if there is no convenient perch.
This post is a cooperative effort between NaturePixels.org and BESG to bring the study of bird behaviour through photography to a wider audience.
