Asian Koel takes a noni fruit

posted in: Feeding-plants | 2

“This morning I was surprised by this female Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopacea) trying to eat this noni (Morinda sp.) fruit which was too big for her to swallow. Besides, this is the first time that I had seen this bird attempting to eat this fruit. Most of the time it would concentrate on fruits that are small enough for it to swallow, fruits like the Indian Cherry (Muntinga calabura), mulberry, figs, and others. I am also not sure if this koel would go about pecking the noni fruit into smaller bits so that it can swallow them.”
