Birds of the Equinox: A pile of feathers…

“My friends and I walked 64.4km from 2120hrs 19 Mar 09 to 1815hrs 20 Mar 09. Although we did walk thru both the Bukit Timah and the MacRitchie Nature Reserves, we did not see any unusual birds, but did encounter the normal forest birds – drongos, hill mynas (Gracula religiosa), woodpeckers, etc. However, at one point on the track on the Rifle Range Trail, we came across a pile of feathers (left). From the colours and looks of the feathers it would appear that a Blue-winged Pitta (Pitta moluccensis) (my guess) had been taken by a sparrowhawk.”
