White-throated Kingfisher catching a lizard

Lim Poh Bee encountered a White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) catching a lizard in January 2009. “…I observed a White-throated Kingfisher with his prized catch – a huge lizard. He was seemingly very proud of his catch as he stuck around for quite a while, turning this way and that to show off his prize. Unfortunately, I don’t know what he did with it as he flew away with the lizard still in his tight grip.”

According to R Subaraj, the lizard “looks like a Changeable Lizard (Calotes versicolor), the common feral species found all over.

Lizards are a favourite food for this kingfisher.
