Albert Earl Gilbert and his wife Shirley were in town recently on their way back from China where he was supervising the colour separation of his many trogon images that will be illustrating the forthcoming book by Joseph M Forshaw, The Natural History of the Trogonidae. The book will be available in mid-2009.
Al is a renowned wildlife artist with a reputation of painting from personal knowledge of his subjects. He was in Singapore many years ago, traveling the region sketching trogons in their natural habitats. He is here to meet up with old friends like Prof Ng Soon Chye, Morten Strange and Ng Bee Choo.
Al is the artist responsible for the colour plates and line drawings in the book: Toucans, Barbets and Honeyguides by L. Short & J. Horne (Oxford University Press, 2001).
